Lizzo Returns to Houston for Children’s Book Tour, Celebrates ‘Lizzo Day’

Lizzo is a singer, flutist, songwriter, entrepreneur — and now, author.

Growing up in Houston, Lizzo returned to the city Monday to celebrate her new children’s book, Little Lizzo Meets Sasha B. Flootin’.

In addition to other book tour stops, she dropped by Blackshear Elementary School in Third Ward for a sing-along with students, who each received a copy of the book.

Little Lizzo Meets Sasha B. Flootin’ by Lizzo takes young readers on an out-of-this-world adventure about friendship, music, and finding your voice.

Lizzo said the story was inspired by her childhood experience of moving from Detroit to Houston and not having any friends in her new environment.

She eventually joined the band at her intermediate school, where she met lifelong friends and discovered her passion for playing the flute.

In Little Lizzo Meets Sasha B. Flootin', readers go on an out-of-this-world journey that explores how playing the flute helped Lizzo find her voice.

The children’s book is available at major booksellers.

The city of Houston also proclaimed September 15 as “Lizzo Day” in recognition of her contributions to the city, music, and education.
