About Tierra Smith
Tierra Smith is an award-winning journalist, speaker, and world traveler. She is passionate about storytelling and uplifting the voices of women and marginalized communities.
Tierra is the Social Media Editor for BLACK ENTERPRISE, the #1 Black digital media brand. She is responsible for designing social media graphics, planning and scheduling news content and creating native content across media channels with a collective 1.4 million followers. She also develops content strategies for corporate partners, sponsors, and the editorial team.
Tierra has earned a Master of Communication from Louisiana State University and a B.A. in Mass Communications from Grambling State University. She served as the editor-in-chief of The Gramblinite and secured prominent internships at the Salt Lake Tribune, the Denver Post, and the Tampa Bay Times. Tierra was also named Student Journalist of the Year by the National Association of Black Journalists in 2015.
While attending graduate school at LSU, Tierra accepted a work-study assignment at the Petroleum Institute in Abu Dhabi, UAE. Her duties included writing press releases and news articles, establishing social media guidelines, and serving as the adviser to the new student-run magazine.
The Milwaukee native is also the founder of Wins For Black Girls, a platform that prioritizes spreading good news about Black women, and Watch Me Win, a marketplace and content monetization platform for female entrepreneurs, content creators, and professionals.


Milwaukee born, Houston raised but she got a lot of flavor from Louisiana.
Tierra is an award-winning journalist who explores unexpected angles in business, community news and features with a passion for telling stories about diverse and marginalized communities.
Tierra currently works for KPRC 2 in Houston as a digital content producer, where her main responsibilities include writing newsworthy articles, editing web content, pushing news alerts, following local and national trends, analyzing data, creating interactive graphics, managing livestreams and scheduling social media content. She also contributes to in-depth, long-term coverage of the biggest stories, such as: COVID-19, hurricanes, civil unrest and major funerals.
Previously, she worked as the Lead Houston Reporter at Bisnow, a digital media company that covers the commercial real estate industry. Her editorial coverage spanned from new developments, spotlights on key industry figures and analysis of trends and its impact on the Greater Houston community. She also wrote about local government, education, small business and transportation for Community Impact Newspaper.
Tierra graduated from Louisiana State University with a Master in Mass Communication in 2017. While at LSU, she studied aboard at the Petroleum Institute in Abu Dhabi, UAE. Her responsibilities included writing stories and press releases, setting social media guidelines for student groups and serving as an adviser to a new student-run magazine.
She also traveled intensely through the country to interview sources for a three-part series about life in the Middle East. The series outlines the experiences of female journalists within a censored media landscape and why Black Americans preferred life in the desert versus stateside.
Tierra also earned a B.A. in Mass Communication from Grambling State University. While in college, Tierra secured an internship each summer, including The News-Star in Monroe, La., Salt Lake Tribune, the Denver Post and the Tampa Bay Times. She served in leadership roles of several student organizations including the GSU National Association of Black Journalists, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. and the GSU Student Government Association.
In 2015, she was named as the Student Journalist of the Year by the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ).
Tierra is an avid podcast listener and also enjoys traveling, cooking plant-based meals and spending time with her friends and family.
